Caves In Kentucky

CAVES IN KENTUCKY
This is a map of Kentucky Downunder. There is a great history on this cave that I found really interesting, especially about, Who was here before me. This has a great page on cave drawings and the stories behind them. http://www.kycaverns.com/
In my research of Caves in Kentucky I have ran across quite a lot of information and maps. Lost River Cave is very fascinating. The river runs through the cave and you can actually take a boat ride through it.
This is a map of how to find Lost River Cave. http://www.lostrivercave.com/find_us.htm
On this site you can find information about the caves history, field trip information for schools. They give a wonderful discount rate for school groups by the grade the children are in.
Mammoth Cave National park, is probably the most famous cave in Kentucky. Mammoth Cave National Park was established in 1941 to protect the underground labyrinth of caves, the rolling hilly, country above, and the Green River Valley. http://www.nps.gov/maca/index.htm
Diamond Caverns is just down the road from the Mammoth Cave National Park. I found that the history of this cave was very interesting. In fact a slave of Jesse Courts discovered a pit in the rocky bottom of a large valley in July 14, 1859. Lowered on a rope into the cave, the first visitor thought sparkling calcite formations resembled diamonds, and the name for the cave was born. http://www.diamondcaverns.com/index2.htm
Step back in time and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Wild West. Many people don't realize the rich history of the Mammoth Cave Region. It is a well known legend that Jesse James robbed one of the local banks in South Central Kentucky and hid out in one of the area caves. Come see a re-creation of the famous gunfights of the "Old West" in the streets of our Wild West town. http://www.mammothcave.com/guntown/
In closing this is just a few of the most popular caves in Kentucky go see, explore and have a good ole time.
